Although Phase 1 of the current “total lockdown” MCO is extended until further notice, the National Security Council has announced extended operating hours for the food and beverage sector. Effective tomorrow, 28th June 2021, restaurants and eateries may open from 6.00am to 10.00pm daily.

Based on the current SOP, restaurants and eateries are currently only allowed to operate between 8.00am to 8.00pm daily. Restaurants and eateries are still not allowed to accept dine-in, and they can only operate for takeaway and deliveries only.

According to Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, dine-in will only be allowed with a maximum of two per table when Malaysia moves into Phase 3 of MCO lockdown. He said that the revised operating hours from 6am to 10pm was made after taking into consideration the appeals and views from stakeholders.

The decision to move to Phase 3 will require daily new cases to fall below 2,000 per day, ICU having moderate capacity and 40% of the population is vaccinated. Malaysia currently still records over 5,000 new cases daily and there are over 800 cases in ICU.
