COVID-19: Malaysia records more than 80 deaths and over 5,800 cases daily for three straight days

Malaysia has recorded 5,803 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 728,462. There are 81 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 4,884.

The Ministry of Health has reported 5,193 new recoveries and a total of 662,932 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 91.00% while the mortality rate is now 0.67%.

There are currently 60,646 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 866 are in ICU while 435 require respiratory support.

Out of the 5,803 new cases today, 10 are imported while 5,793 are transmitted locally. Selangor continues to top the list with 2,108 new cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 741 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 628 cases and Sarawak with 491 cases.

There are 14 new clusters identified today and 9 are workplace related cluster. Below is the breakdown based on states and category:

The current Phase 1 of total lockdown MCO is scheduled to end on 28th June. According to the National Recovery Plan, the country can only move into Phase 2 with slightly fewer restrictions if the number of new daily cases falls below 4,000 and ICU bed usage is at a moderate level. Looking at the current situation, it is likely that Phase 1 with its current restrictions will be extended further.
