Huawei Malaysia has officially announced the MatePad Pro 12.6, its latest flagship tablet which runs on HarmonyOS 2.0. According to Huawei, this is their ultimate productivity booster and it will be available from 18th June onwards.

Pricing and availability

The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is officially priced at RM3,999 in Malaysia with a single WiFi-only variant and it is configured with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. In terms of colours, it is currently sold only in Matte Grey. To secure your unit, you can pre-order from today, 10th June until 17th June 2021 on the Huawei official online store, Lazada and Shopee.

As a special pre-order promo, they are bundling free gifts worth up to RM1,747. This includes the 2nd gen Huawei M-Pencil, a Huawei Smart Magnetic Keyboard, Huawei Classic Backpack, 3 months 50GB Huawei Cloud storage and 1 month Huawei Video VIP access.

On top of that, pre-order customers will also stand a chance to win another Huawei MatePad Pro with a 2nd gen Huawei M-Pencil via the “Buy and Win” lucky draw contest. The contest ends at 11:59pm on 17th June and the winner will be announced on their Facebook Page on 21st June 2021 at 2pm.

Hardware Specs

The MatePad Pro 12.6″ features an OLED display that pushes a 2560×1600 pixels resolution. Under the hood, it runs on a Kirin 9000E processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. If you need to expand more, the tablet also supports NM Memory card expansion.

For an enhanced video playback experience, it features 8 Harman Kardon tuned speakers and there’s also an array of 4 microphones. For taking pictures, the rear gets a triple-camera setup consisting of a 13MP f/1.8 main camera, 8MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 3D depth sensing camera. For video calls, the front comes with an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.

Since this is a productivity-focused tablet, you can hook it up to a smart magnetic keyboard and add on a 2nd gen M-Pencil stylus. The new M-Pencil has a latency of 9ms and supports 4,096 levels of pressure. It supports double-tap gestures and it can charge wirelessly when it is attached to the tablet magnetically.

The upgraded Huawei Share allows a greater and seamless multi-screen experience with your Windows computer. You can use the tablet in Mirror Mode, Extend Mode and Collaborate mode. When enabled, Collaborate mode allows you to seamlessly drag and drop files between your computer and the MatePad Pro 12.6.

Powering the tablet is a 10,050mAh battery and it supports 40W Huawei SuperCharge fast charging via USB-C. For greater convenience, it also supports wireless charging up to 27W and you can use it to charge other devices via reverse wireless charging up to 10W. The device supports faster WiFi 6+ connectivity with a compatible router but do note that this particular model doesn’t come with 5G. It isn’t clear if Huawei Malaysia would introduce a WiFi + cellular version later.

At RM3,999, it is significantly cheaper than the 12.9″ iPad Pro 2021 which starts from RM4,799 for the 128GB storage version. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7+ WiFi with 256GB is currently going for RM4,599. Since the MatePad Pro 12.6 runs on HarmonyOS 2, you won’t get Google apps and services preinstalled, and the official way to download apps is via Huawei’s AppGallery.
