Alienware’s new X15 gaming laptop is only 15.9mm thick

Traditionally, gaming laptops have been a lot thicker and heavier than their ultrabook siblings. However, no one seems to have told Alienware about it, who have just launched the X15 gaming laptop.

At just 15.9mm thick, it’s not the thinnest gaming machine out there – the refreshed Razer Blade 15 Advanced is ever so slightly thinner at 15.8mm – but it’s still pretty impressive once you see the spec sheet.

Specs

With Intel having only recently launched their new 11th gen H-series of mobile CPUs, it’s no surprise then to see the X15 pack the latest and greatest from Team Blue. Even the entry model already packs the Intel Core i7-11800H, while you can opt to upgrade that to the Intel Core i9-11900H. You can opt between 16GB or 32GB of RAM, while storage-wise the base model comes with 256GB of NVMe storage, upgradable to a maximum of 4TB.

The star of the show in a gaming machine however is of course the graphics card. Here, the X15 will come with the NVIDIA RTX 3060 mobile GPU in the base model, which you can upgrade to an RTX 3080 if you’d like.

Do note however that probably due to the X15’s smaller size, the GPUs in it are of lower total graphics power. The RTX 3060 in the base model for example is a 90W variant, while other gaming laptops have been seen with up to 130W RTX 3060 GPUs. The X15’s RTX 3080 meanwhile is rated at 110W; again we’ve seen thicker laptops packing RTX 3080 GPUs rated as high as 165W.

Other details of the X15 include a 15.6-inch display with the option of a FHD 165Hz, 3ms, 300nits option or the pricier QHD 240Hz, 2ms, 400nits option. It comes with a USB-A 3.2 port, a USB-C 3.2 port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a microSD card slot, a headphone jack, and a HDMI 2.1 port as well. Also, while it may be a thin laptop, it’s certainly not among the lightest, coming in at between 2.2 to 2.3kg, depending on configuration.

Pricing and availability

The Alienware X15 starts at USD 1,999 (~RM 8,248.87), although that will only get you the base model with the Intel Core i7-11800H CPU and RTX 3060 in it. As for the upgraded options Alienware hasn’t shared pricing for those yet, so it remains to be seen how expensive the maxed out X15 will be. As for Malaysia though, there’s no word yet on local pricing or if it’ll be available here for that matter. In the meantime though, you can check out the X15’s product page here.
