Malaysia will be placed under total lockdown from 1st June 2021. Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced a new movement restriction for those intending to leave home to buy necessities.
During the total lockdown period, a maximum of two persons from the same household can leave home to buy groceries, food and medical supplies. However, they are also restricted to a radius of 10 km. The Minister said the restrictions are similar to the early phase of the MCO that was implemented last year.
During the total lockdown MCO, all businesses must be closed except for essential economic and services sectors. Interdistrict and interstate travel is strictly not allowed.
Ismail Sabri said that MITI issued letters are no longer accepted after 31st May 2021. From 1st June 2021, authorisation letters to travel interdistrict or interstate for work must be issued from the respective ministries. For example if the work is related to the agricultural sector, the letter must be issued by the Agriculture Ministry.
