The Realme 8 5G is now official in Malaysia and it is one of the most affordable smartphones with 5G in the country. Besides supporting high-speed mobile connectivity, it has a display with 90Hz refresh rate and a large 5,000mAh battery.

Pricing and availability

The Realme 8 5G with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage is officially priced at RM899 in Malaysia. It is available in Supersonic Blue and Supersonic Black. During its first day online sale that’s happening on the 28th of May on Lazada, you can get it for only RM799.

The device is also available at all authorised stores from 28th May and it will be bundled with a portal smoothie blender while stocks last. You can find the list of stores here.

Hardware Specs

The Realme 8 5G features a 6.5″ Full HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate for a fluid visual experience. Under the hood, it runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 processor with 5G that’s mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Onboard, it gets 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage which is expandable via microSD card.

For taking pictures, it gets a triple-camera setup featuring a 48MP main camera and two 2MP shooters for depth and macro. For selfies, the screen has a tiny punch-hole with a 16MP front camera.

Powering the device is a large 5,000mAh battery and it supports 18W fast charging via USB-C. It also supports 5GHz WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1 and features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The closest competitor for the Realme 8 5G is the Redmi Note 10 5G which was launched recently for RM799. Both devices have very similar specs from the display, processor, rear cameras and even the battery. These are currently the most affordable 5G smartphones you can buy in Malaysia and soon there will be a new contender in the form of the Poco M3 Pro 5G which will be announced on 1st June.
