Following the global launch of the Poco M3 Pro 5G, Malaysians will soon be able to buy one probably as early as next week. Poco is having a Southeast Asia launch event next week and they are expected to reveal its official pricing and availability for the Malaysian market.
The regional launch is taking place at 8pm on Tuesday, 1st June 2021 and you can tune in to their livestream on Facebook. From the looks of it, you can probably buy the device shortly after the launch event via their official store on Lazada and Shopee, and it’s likely that Poco will offer an early bird promo.
As a comparison, the device is currently offered for as low as EUR 159 (about RM801) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model or EUR 179 (about RM902) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage option in the European market. Do note that prices for phones in Europe is generally higher than Malaysia.
The Poco M3 is currently one of the most popular smartphones to buy under RM500 and the new Pro 5G version offers some significant upgrades. Upfront, the 6.5″ Full HD+ display now pushes a high 90Hz refresh rate. The device runs on a 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip which supports 5G connectivity. The device can be configured with either 4GB RAM + 64GB storage or 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.
In terms of cameras, it is pretty much unchanged with a basic triple-camera setup. It features a 48MP main camera and two 2MP shooters for depth and macro effects. For selfies, the tiny punch-hole houses an 8MP front camera.
Unlike the original Poco M3, the Pro 5G model actually comes with a smaller 5,000mAh battery and it doesn’t appear to come with stereo speakers. However, you still get a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, infrared blaster and NFC support. The device is available in 3 colours – Poco Yellow, Power Black and Cool Blue.
It is worth pointing out that the hardware is identical to the Redmi Note 10 5G which was announced last week. The Redmi branded device is priced at RM799 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model and the first sale is happening on 28th May 2021 on both Lazada and Shopee. Will the Poco M3 Pro 5G be cheaper than the Redmi Note 10 5G? We’ll have to wait until next Tuesday to find out more.
