COVID-19: Record-high 61 deaths today, active cases now over 60,000 with 711 in ICU

Malaysia has recorded 6,509 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 518,600. There are 61 new deaths reported which is a new record high and the death toll is now 2,309. Malaysia has recorded 362 COVID-19 deaths in the past 7 days which is an average of 51.7 deaths per day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 3,452 new recoveries and a total of 456,273 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 88% while the mortality rate is at 0.45%.

There are currently 60,018 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 711 are in ICU while 369 require respiratory support.

Out of the 6,509 new cases today, 20 are imported while 6,489 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 2,049 cases, followed by Sarawak with 530 cases and both Johor and Kuala Lumpur record 468 cases each.
