Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 Malaysia: Everything you need to know

The latest Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is now available for pre-order in Malaysia and it is offered with both AMD and Intel processor variants. The Surface Laptop 4 is priced from RM4,599 and it’s available in either 13.5″ or 15″ screen sizes.

Pricing and availability

Microsoft Malaysia is offering a total of 15 options but not all of them are available for consumers. The models are available for pre-order starting from 19th May 2021 through authorised retailers in Malaysia which also include the official Microsoft store on both Lazada and Shopee.

As part of the pre-order promo, you can get freebies worth up to RM598 and enjoy a PWP promo for Microsoft 365 family for only RM59 on the official store on Lazada and Shopee.

According to Microsoft, the Business version provides specific experiences and features for commercial customers. This include enterprise-grade security and leading modern management with Autopilot, Surface Enterprise Management Mode (SEMM), Microsoft Intune and Windows 10 Pro. Business customers also get free Advanced Exchange, a warranty service with expedited device replacement at no extra cost.

Hardware Specs

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is the first in the series to provide consumers the option to choose between an AMD Ryzen 4000 and Intel 11th gen processors. The 13.5″ version gets a touch-screen display that pushes 2256×1504 pixels resolution and it weighs 1.265kg for the Platinum and Ice Blue Alcantara version or 1.288kg for the Matte Black and Sandstone metal variant. Meanwhile, the larger 15″ Surface Laptop 4 also comes with a touch-screen display but it pushes a higher 2496×1664 pixels resolution.

The laptops can support the Surface Pen which is sold separately. Built-in as standard is a full-size backlit keyboard with 1.3mm travel and there’s also a precision trackpad that’s covered with glass.

According to the global spec-sheet, it can be configured with up to 32GB LPDDR4X RAM and has storage options up to 1TB. Interestingly, it uses a removable M.2 NVMe SSD which means that storage is upgradable.

Both devices feature a 720p HD front camera with Windows Hello face authentication and it gets a pair of far-field studio mics. The laptops also get Omnisonic speakers that are enhanced by Dolby Atmos.

In terms of connectivity, it gets a single USB-A port, a single USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Microsoft’s proprietary Surface Connect port. The device supports 802.11ax WiFi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5.0.

On a single charge, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is rated to last up to 19 hours on the 13.5″ version with AMD Ryzen 5 or up to 17 hours if it’s running on the Intel Core i5 version. Battery life on the larger 15″ model is shorter at a rated up to 17.5 hours for Ryzen 7 or up to 16.5 hours for the Intel Core i7.
