Disney+ Hotstar comes to Malaysia on 1st June, RM54.90 for 3 months

Disney has officially introduced Disney+ Hotstar for Malaysia and it will start streaming on the 1st of June 2021. This is the latest video streaming platform that offers international and local movies, animation and TV shows.

Pricing and availability

Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia is officially priced at RM54.90 for 3 months, which calculates to RM18.30 per month. It will be available to users on both Android and iOS devices, website as well as compatible Smart TVs. In addition, Disney+ Hotstar will also be available in partnership with Astro for Movies Pack subscribers.

All content is offered commercial-free and Disney also offers a dedicated kids section with age-appropriate content with a kid-friendly and easy to navigate user interface. Each account can support two concurrent streams and most of the content can support download on mobile and tablet.

As a comparison, Netflix currently has a total of 5 streaming plans which start from as low as RM17/month for mobile-only streaming. Its highest Premium plan is priced at RM55/month and it supports concurrent streaming on 4 devices with up to 4K HDR resolution.

Disney+ Hotstar content for Malaysia

The streaming platform offers over 800 films and 18,000 episodes of popular TV series from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic and more. This includes Disney Aladdin, Frozen II, Avengers, The Mandalorian, Hamilton, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Disney+ Hotstar will also be home to local content which includes J2: J Retribusi, Ejen Ali, KL Special Force, and Zombitopia. Several local Primetime drama series such as TV3’s Single Terlalu Lama and Kekasih Hati Mr. Bodyguard will premier first at 7am on Disney+ Hotstar on the same day, which is up to 15 hours earlier before anywhere else.

The platform also offers popular Chinese movies and series including The Silent Forest, Ip Man 4: The Finale, Agent Mr. Chan, Infernal Affairs, Line Walker 2, The Storm Riders, Number 1 (starts streaming mid-June), The Deer and the Cauldron, The Legend of Hao Lan, Nothing Gold Can Stay and Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace.

There are also Hindi and Tamil movies and series by Hotstar which include Dil Bechara, Lootcase, Khuda Hafiz, Teddy (starts streaming mid-June), Big Bull (starts streaming end-June), 1232 KMS (starts streaming mid-July), The Legend of Hanuman (starts streaming mid-July), Live Telecast and Triples.
