We’re expecting to see two new foldable smartphones arrive this year: the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. If you’re keen on the former, a number of images have surfaced that purportedly reveal a couple of details for Samsung’s upcoming flagship foldable—including the company’s first ever under-display camera.
The images can be viewed on Twitter, and they appear to be low-quality screenshots of Samsung’s marketing promo materials:
As you can see, Samsung might be departing from the gigantic camera bump seen on its last few flagship devices, opting instead for a cleaner-looking vertical line of cameras on the back of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Meanwhile, the leaked information also suggests that we’ll be seeing the company’s first ever under-display camera—although this is supposed to mean that the Z Flip 3 will use a conventional hole-punch cutout instead.
Plus, as widely expected, the leaked images seemingly confirm that we’ll be getting S Pen support for the Z Fold 3—a move that would make sense, given the large screen real estate that the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s main display would purportedly offer.
Unfortunately, the leaked images do not include any that show off the front-facing cover display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3—which has been rumoured to be a smaller 4″ screen. This would be a regression from the Z Fold 2, which had an upgraded 6.23″ display over the Galaxy Fold’s 4″ display (which was one of my major gripes with the device, along with the obvious).
Other rumoured specs for Samsung’s upcoming foldable include an IP rating for the first time, which would offer a degree of protection against dust and water. For now, Samsung hasn’t confirmed when the new foldable phones will be released, but the word is that we’ll be seeing a launch sometime in July of 2021.
