Black Shark 4 Malaysia: Everything you need to know

The Black Shark 4 is coming to Malaysia very soon and you can pre-order your unit starting next week. This gaming smartphone looks like an affordable alternative to the ROG Phone 5 series and it comes with physical pop-up shoulder triggers.

Pricing and availability

The Black Shark 4 is offered in two spec options and here’s the official Malaysian pricing:

8GB RAM + 128GB storage – RM2,299
12GB RAM + 256GB storage – RM2,799

If you’re interested, you can pre-order on the official online store on Shopee Malaysia starting from Wednesday, 28th April until 4th May 2021. According to the store listing, the device is offered in either Black or Grey.

As a pre-order promo, Black Shark is offering 1-year screen protection, Black Shark Carry Case, Black Shark Gaming Mousepad, Black Shark 4 Tempered Glass and Black Shark Mask. In addition, you also get Mobile Legends MPL goodies which include an Ultimate Esports Box, Hero Fragments (20), Magic Dust (200), “hahaha” emote (7 day trial card) and a chance to win permanent skin worth 899 diamonds.

Hardware specs

The Black Shark 4 is the standard model of the new series and there’s still no word on the local availability of its higher-spec Black Shark 4 Pro. The device comes with a 6.67″ AMOLED display from Samsung that offers 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz screen touch sampling rate.

Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 870 processor with 5G which is the same unit that runs on the Poco F3. This is essentially an “updated” Snapdragon 865+ which is still capable for today’s usage. It can be configured with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

As you would expect for a gaming smartphone, it gets front-facing DTS stereo speakers and it also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack. For better physical controls, the Black Shark 4 also gets a pair of magnetic pop-up shoulder triggers which was first introduced on the Black Shark 3 Pro. According to Black Shark, they have improved the triggers with enhanced tactile response for greater precision and feedback.

For taking pictures, it gets a horizontally arranged triple-camera setup with a 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP telephoto camera. The front gets a 20MP selfie shooter that supports AI beauty mode.

Powering the device is a dual-cell 4,500mAh battery which supports 120W fast charging via USB-C. If you use the optional 120W Hyper Charge power adapter, Black Shark claims you can get a 100% charge in just 15 minutes. Take note that the device is shipped with a 65W power adapter.

Out of the box, it runs on JOYUI 12.5 which is said to inherit most of its features from Xiaomi’s MIUI 12. They have also enhanced its Shark Space gaming interface which is a mode which enhances performance while reducing distractions while gaming.

To complete your gaming experience, you can add-on a Funcooler 2 Pro which retails for RM199. To keep your device juiced up at all times, there’s also the 20,000mAh Black Shark Fast Charge power bank at RM179. The power bank comes with two USB-A and one USB-C port, but the max power output is only 18W.
