Is this the new Apple Pencil for the upcoming iPad Pro?

Apple is having its “Spring Loaded” event on the 20th April (1am 21st April Malaysian time) and the star of the show is expected to be its new iPad Pro that uses a mini-LED display. Ahead of the big launch, a video has surfaced online which reveals what appears to be a brand new Apple Pencil.

The short 4-second clip shows a glossy stylus which is similar to the first gen Apple Pencil. It still comes with a flat edge which allows it to be charged wirelessly when attached to the iPad via magnet.

At this point, it isn’t clear if the 3rd gen pencil offers any significant upgrade in terms of battery life, precision and features. Since it uses a similar charging mechanism as the 2nd gen model, it might be backward compatible with the current iPad Pro and iPad Air models. It is also speculated that the tip for the new Pencil is larger and for the first time, it would also be available in black.

The current Apple Pencil is one of the best digital stylus in the market and it has gotten even better with newer features introduced with iPadOS 14. To recap, Apple is still selling both 1st generation and 2nd generation Apple Pencils. The first version gets all rounded design and it has a lightning connector at the back which is used for charging. The newer 2nd gen version charges wirelessly and it was introduced with the 2018 iPad Pro. At the moment, the first gen Pencil is priced at RM419 while the second gen is going for RM549.
