COVID-19: New cases rise to 1,671 today, total active cases still under 14,500

Malaysia has recorded 1,671 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 331,713. There are 4 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 1,229. There were more new cases than new recoveries reported today.

The Ministry of Health has reported 1,585 new recoveries and a total of 316,042 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 95.28% while the mortality rate is at 0.37%. The last time there were more new cases than recoveries in a day was 24th February 2021.

There are currently 14,442 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 151 are in ICU while 64 require respiratory support.

Out of the 1,671 new cases today, 2 are imported while 1,669 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 652 cases, followed by Pulau Pinang with 328 cases, Sarawak with 154 cases and Johor with 132 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 4 new clusters. This include Teluk Air Tawar cluster in Pulau Pinang, Perindustrian Pekan Nanas cluster in Johor, Tanjung Genting cluster in Sarawak and Pulau Pisang cluster in Perak.

A total of 53 clusters have recorded new cases today. The DTI Juru cluster recorded the most with 206 cases, followed by Persiaran Freesia construction site cluster with 134 cases and the newly identified Perindustrian Pekan Nanas cluster with 39 cases.
