Lego releases 7 new Chinese mythology-inspired Monkie Kid sets

Lego has been killing it with sets that help teach kids about Chinese culture—like these CNY-themed sets. They have even released their own “Monkey King” series in 2020 called Monkie Kid, and now they are celebrating their second season with seven new sets.

Lego Monkie Kid is inspired by the 500-year-old legend of the Monkey King. Their show—which premiered last year—tells the story of a boy who finds the Monkey King’s legendary staff and becomes the chosen one.

Along with the mini movie debut, Lego is also releasing seven Monkie Kid sets. They include The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain (80024), Monkie Kid Lion Guardian (80021), Spider Queen’s Arachnoid Base (80022), Monkie Kid’s Cloud Bike (80018), Red Son’s Inferno Jet (80019), White Dragon’s Horse Jet (80020), Monkie Kid’s Team Dronecopter (80023).

“With the extension of the Lego Monkie Kid theme, we continue to pay tribute to the beloved classic, while re-imagining it to provide a refreshing common ground for children, parents and grandparents to build and play together… In this vein, Lego Monkie Kid enables children to engage in great building experiences while learning important Chinese culture and values through play,” says Rohan Mathur, Marketing Director Southeast Asia at the Lego Group.

The Lego Monkie Kid mini movie to kick-start Season 2 will debut on TV3 on 27 March 2021, 10.30am to 11.30am. Season 2’s 10 episode series will premiere later this year. If you want to catch up on Season 1 of Monkie Kid, you can watch it on Lego’s YouTube page here.

Lego Monkie Kid is now available on Lego.com, Lego stores, and on Lazada and Shopee.

You can also watch the team build Chinese New Year-themed Lego sets and learn about Chinese culture at the same time. They also talked about what Chinese New Year means to them.
