COVID-19: 1,063 new cases today, lowest reported since 10 Dec 2020

Malaysia has recorded 1,063 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 326,034. This was revealed by Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham a few hours earlier than the usual daily update which happens around 6pm.

At the time of writing, the number of recoveries, deaths and active cases remaining for today are not revealed yet. However, the Health D-G has provided a breakdown of cases by state.

Selangor continues to record the most with 323 new cases, followed by Sarawak with 183 cases and Pulau Pinang with 175 cases. Other states have recorded less than 100 cases. Melaka and Labuan reported one case each, while Putrajaya and Perlis both recorded zero cases.

Today marks 5 days of continuous decline in the number of new daily cases in Malaysia. At 1,063 cases, this is the lowest recorded in a day since 10th December 2020.

There are 5 new deaths reported, which brings the death toll to 1,218. The Ministry of Health has also reported 1,365 new recoveries and a total of 309,612 patients have recovered and discharged. The recovery rate is now 94.96% while the mortality rate is at 0.37%.

There are currently 15,204 active cases remaining that are currently receiving treatment. 152 are in ICU while 68 are require respiratory support.

The Ministry has identified 5 new clusters today. This include Jalan Kampung Hilir, Nanga Bulo and Jalan Sanyan clusters in Sarawak, Banggol Chicha cluster in Kelantan and Jalan Taiping cluster in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 55 clusters have recorded new cases today. The Medan Bayan Lepas cluster recorded with 58 new cases, followed by Jalan Nusa Mega cluster with 28 cases and Kemuning Enam cluster with 28 cases.
