Oppo Find X3 Pro: Everything you need to know

After plenty of leaks, the Oppo Find X3 Pro is here! As expected, Oppo‘s newest flagship phone comes with a design that looks a lot like the iPhone 12 Pro series—although it’s probably one of the sleekest takes on a triple-camera bump I’ve seen in awhile. They’ve also included a really unique camera lens within that bump for “micro” photography, and in general, this is certainly one of the best phones on paper for 2021 thus far.

Price and availability

The Oppo Find X3 Pro will go on sale in Europe from the 30th of March 2021 and will be priced at EUR 1,149 (~RM5,647). There’s no information on how much this smartphone will be priced in Malaysia but we will update you as soon as we find out.

Oppo Find X3 Pro specs

The Oppo Find X3 Pro comes with the Snapdragon 888 under the hood, while you get dual-mode 5G connectivity which supports both NSA and SA networks. Meanwhile, you also get Dual Sim 5G + 5G, which means that two SIMs can be used at the same time—without affecting each other. Plus, this comes equipped with WiFi 6 capabilities, so you’re pretty much covered with regards to connectivity and future-proofing.

To sustain the device, the Find X3 Pro has a 4,500mAh battery under the hood, which you’ll be able to charge at up to 65W via SuperVOOC 2.0 flash charging technology. Oppo promises that you’ll be able to charge the device from 9–40 percent in 10 minutes with USB-C charging, while you can also use a compatible AirVOOC wireless charger to juice up the Find X3 Pro at 30W (a full charge will take 80 minutes). Like many other flagship Android smartphones these days, Oppo’s flagship will also be able to wirelessly charge other Qi-compatible devices—although reverse wireless charging will be limited to 10W.

One of the most interesting things about the Oppo Find X3 is, as mentioned above, its camera system. It’s a quad-camera setup on the rear, with a 50MP wide-angle shooter using an IMX766 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture complemented with a 50MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 13MP telephoto camera which offers up to 5x Hybrid Optical Zoom. But the wow factor here is clearly down to the 3MP microlens, which basically functions as a de-facto microscope. It supports FHD video recording, and it can magnify objects at up to 60x—and from our experience so far, the microlens is seriously, seriously impressive.

Something else that should be pretty fun to try out is Oppo’s AI Palettes feature. Essentially, this creates filters from other photos that you can use on your own images, so if you’re a fan of a particular photographer’s editing style, this is one for you. And similar to the Find X2 Pro, you’ll be able to capture HDR images in RAW format, although this time, the improved RAW+ should offer even more image data.

Upfront, you’re looking at what Oppo calls a “True Billion Colour Display”—-this uses the company’s Full-path 10-bit Colour Management System. As a result, Oppo says that this is “the best colour reproduction” that you can find on a smartphone anywhere, which is a really bold claim to make. In any case, it’s a 6.7″ curved screen pushing a QHD+ resolution of 3216×1440 pixels and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and it also comes with support for HDR10+. DisplayMate has certified this as an A+ display, so this is certainly one of the stronger points of the Oppo Find X3 Pro.

So, what do you think? While it’s clear that the Find X3 Pro takes some of its design inspiration from the iPhone 12 Pro, Oppo says that the “perfect curve” on the glass back of the device takes 40 hours to create, and from what we can tell, it certainly feels premium in the hand. Meanwhile, the Find X3 Pro will ship with ColorOS 11.2, which is based on Android 11.
