Jobstreet teams up with British digital education platform Futurelearn to help the Malaysian workforce upskill or reskill themselves. With the offer, you’re able to choose from “over 80” free courses focusing on soft skills—and you’ll also be given sharable certificates upon course completion.

According to Jobstreet country manager Simran Kaur, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the employment market was already in a “state of disruption”. She said that “automation threatening various existing jobs” and “a shortage of qualified talent in emerging roles” were the reasons why there’s an immediate need for ‘upskilling’ and ‘reskilling’.

Under the partnership with Futurelearn, Jobstreet is offering individuals access to one free course comprising of emerging technologies like data science, digital marketing, cryptocurrency, and even transferable skills like mental wellbeing, critical thinking skills, and management skills.

To sign up for a free course, visit Jobstreet’s Futurelearn page here. If you scroll down, you’ll be able to see some of the courses that you would be able to choose later on. Sign up by filling in your name and email address on the page and you should get an email from Jobstreet containing a voucher code “in the next hour”.

You are able to sign up for a free course from now until 31 March 2021, or “when 100,000 course vouchers are fully redeemed across JobStreet and JobsDB participating countries, whichever is sooner”.

Other terms and conditions include that participants need to be at least 18 years old residing in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Each voucher can only be redeemed once using the same email.

Once you’ve been sent the email with the voucher code, you can use the code on Futurelearn’s Emerging Skills page or its Transferrable Skills page. The courses require you to spend a certain number of hours per week in a certain number of weeks. For example, a leadership course requires you to spend 3 hours a week for 2 weeks, and a critical thinking course requires you to spend 4 hours a week for 8 weeks.

“JobStreet believes that learning should be an enjoyable, social experience. These courses offer the opportunity to discuss what you’re learning with others as you go, helping you make fresh discoveries and form new ideas,” continued Simran Kaur.

Last year, Jobstreet reported that 1 in 5 Malaysians have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. Most of the retrenched employees were from the low-income segment, as well as the part-time workforce in small organisations.
