Ikea x Lego boxes will launch in Malaysia on 12 March, but you have to be quick

Ikea revealed an underwhelming collaboration with Lego last year called the ‘BYGGLEK’. But the sets would only officially launch in Malaysian Ikea stores on 12 March 2021, and online on 18 March 2021—and I think they’re still going to sell like hotcakes.

According to Singaporean site 8days, Lego fans queued outside Singapore’s Ikea stores on launch day (18 February 2021) for the ‘BYGGLEK’ collection. There were also reports of folks buying up many boxes, despite the fact that there is a limit of three pieces per customer. The collection quickly sold out days before they were meant to be sold online.

As for the upcoming launch in Malaysia, Ikea stated that each customer will only be able to purchase two pieces each—most likely because they are expecting a similar situation. Even so, they are offering a free Lego City Police Helicopter set to the first 100 customers per store, with any purchase from the ‘BYGGLEK’ collection.

The ‘BYGGLEK’ collection is a storage solution consisting of four different products. They include one set of three small boxes, a large box, a medium box, and one set of Lego bricks.

The boxes have Lego studs on the lids and on the front so that you can stick actual Lego pieces onto them. You’re then also able to play with Legos on these surfaces, but Ikea aims to “make it more fun for kids to store their belongings when playtime’s over”.

Here are the Malaysian prices for the ‘BYGGLEK’ collection:

  • Large-sized box – RM79.90
  • Medium-sized box – RM69.90
  • Three small sized boxes – RM69.90
  • 201-piece Lego brick set part of the ‘BYGGLEK’ collection – RM79.90

You can learn more about the ‘BYGGLEK’ set at Ikea Malaysia’s website. And if you’re planning to stand in line with the other Lego x Ikea fans, please be reminded to stay safe and to keep your social distance. You could also opt to wait for the online launch instead of going out to the stores to get the collection.
