COVID-19: 3,631 new cases and 14 new deaths today, total active cases now 39,464

Malaysia has recorded 3,631 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 165,371. There are 14 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 619.

The Ministry of Health has reported 2,944 new recoveries and a total of 125,288 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 75.8% while the mortality rate is now 0.4%.

There are currently 39,464 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 238 are in ICU while 96 require respiratory support.

Out of the 3,631 new cases today, 7 are imported while 3,624 are transmitted locally. Selangor continues to record the most with 1,199 new cases today, followed by Sabah with 526 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 521 cases and Johor with 368 cases.

According to Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the new daily cases reported recently are due to exposure within a 14-day period before 13th January 2021. The effectiveness of the current MCO can only be seen after 26th January 2021.

The Ministry of Health has identified 9 new COVID-19 clusters today. This include Jalan Sungai Jelok prison cluster in Selangor, Jalan Masjid cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Taruka cluster in Johor, Taman Sayong Pinang cluster in Johor, Sri Gading cluster in Johor, Rakut cluster in Sarawak, Kupang cluster in Kedah, Kebor Air cluster in Terengganu and Rantau Cempaka cluster which covers Pahang and Selangor.

A total of 81 active clusters have recorded new cases today. The newly identified Jalan Sungai Jelok prison cluster recorded the most with 217 cases, followed by Jalan Selayang cluster with 188 cases and Pasai cluster with 90 cases.
