Muhyiddin to address the nation on the declaration of emergency at 11am today

Following the statement released by Istana Negara, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will address the nation with regards to the declaration of emergency. He will go live at 11am today to provide further details.

The announcement is happening at 11am today (12th January 2021) and it will be streamed live through multiple platforms including RTMBernama TVTV3 and Astro Awani.

As announced by the Palace, the Prime Minister had presented the cabinet’s proposal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday evening to declare an emergency as a proactive measure to tackle the COVID-19 situation. The emergency will be implemented until 1st August 2021 or until the number of daily COVID-19 cases drops to a manageable level.

This comes a day before the new MCO is enforced from 12.01am on 13th January 2021. The states and territories of Pulau Pinang, Selangor, Federal Territory (including Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya), Melaka, Johor and Sabah, are placed under MCO. Meanwhile, Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, are placed under CMCO. During the two week period, interstate travel is not permitted nationwide while interdistrict travel is not allowed for areas under MCO.
