Redmi Note 9T is also launching this Friday. Xiaomi’s sub-RM1,000 5G smartphone?

Besides the Redmi 9T, Xiaomi is also launching the Redmi Note 9T which appears to be their budget 5G smartphone. The new device will be revealed this coming Friday at 8pm Malaysian time.

The online event will be streamed live via Xiaomi’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube channel on the 8th January 2021 at 8pm. That’s the same time as the launch of the Redmi 9T.

The Redmi Note 9T is expected to be the global version of the Redmi Note 9 5G that was launched in China in November 2020. The teaser shows a phone with circular camera bump that has a triple-camera setup. However, if you look closely, you’ll noticed that the bump is different as it has a flat top and bottom, which is somewhat similar to the Poco X3 NFC.

Based on the benchmark scores on Geekbench, the Redmi Note 9T is running on a MediaTek Dimensity 800U chip that supports 5G connectivity but it is listed with only 4GB of RAM. The device is expected to feature a 6.53″ Full HD+ IPS display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

In terms of the cameras, the rear gets a 48MP main camera that’s accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 2MP macro lens. For selfies, the device is said to feature a 13MP front camera that sits in a punch-hole on the top left corner of the screen..

Similar to the China-spec Redmi Note 9 5G, the device will likely to come with a 5,000mAh battery that can support 18W fast charging via USB-C. The device still gets a 3.5mm headphone jack and it could also offer stereo speakers.

In China, the Redmi Note 9 5G is priced from CNY 1,299 (about RM806) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant and it goes all the way up to CNY 1,699 (about RM1,054) for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage version.
