Certification hints Galaxy S21 will ship without a charger, Samsung deletes Facebook post that mocked Apple

It didn’t seem too long ago when Samsung called out Apple for not including a charger in the iPhone 12 box as well as removing it from their older models. Now, it looks like the pot is calling the kettle black because documentation on Galaxy S21 suggest that the latest flagship device from the South Korean device maker won’t ship with a charger either.

Rumours have been going around since October that the Galaxy S21 may not ship with any accessories, this includes both the charger and headphones. Brazilian website Tecnoblog stated that the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra have just been approved by ANATEL in Brazil. In case you didn’t know, ANATEL is the equivalent agency to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States.

While the documentation filed at ANATEL does not reveal any details about the next-generation Galaxy smartphones, they do indicate that the three Galaxy S21 models will not have a charger included in the box. It also notes that there will be no headphones bundled with the phones either.

Now, this shouldn’t come as a surprise as we reported the company was already mulling the idea as early as July 2020. The report cited that the main reason for the move came down to cost reduction, with the cost of making a smartphone shooting up due to the development of 5G.

If Samsung were to remove the accessories from its smartphones, it is believed the company would apply this to its entire line up of devices. But it is all the more ironic that the company mocked Apple and proceeded to do the same just a few months later.

Below is a screenshot of a post made on Samsung’s official Facebook page back in October and it looks like the post has since been removed. No doubt leaving the post up doesn’t look good on Samsung.

Back in 2017, Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone and Samsung made jokes about the company for doing so. Two years later in 2019, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 10 and it too had removed the headphone jack from its flagship smartphone.

It is interesting to note that Brazil’s National Consumer Secretary is considering forcing Apple to sell iPhones with the charger included in the box. If they are successful in doing so, Samsung may be forced to ship their Galaxy S21 smartphones with the charger when they go on sale in Brazil.
