[UPDATED] Air Selangor: Sg Selangor contamination causes water disruption in the Klang Valley

[ UPDATE 9/12/2020 23:00 ]: Air Selangor has updated that stable water supply has been restored to 96.4% of 861 affected areas as of 9:00pm.

[ UPDATE 9/12/2020 14:00 ]: Water supply has been stabilised in 85% of 861 affected areas as of 12:00pm. Supply has been fully restored in Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor.

[ UPDATE 9/12/2020 09:00 ]: As of 6am on Wednesday, Air Selangor updates that water supply has been stabilised at 77% of 861 affected areas. Efforts to stabilise water supply in the remaining 197 areas are still ongoing. Kuala Selangor is fully restored while restoration in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling areas are above 90% completed.

[ UPDATE 8/12/2020 23:00 ]: As of 10pm, Air Selangor has announced that water supply has been stabilised at 53% of 861 affected areas in the Klang Valley.

[ UPDATE 8/12/2020 16:22 ]: According to Air Selangor, 28% out of the 861 affected areas have received stable water supply as of 3:30pm. Kuala Selangor is 94% restored, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 62% and Petaling at 30%.

[ UPDATE 8/12/2020 15:00 ]: Air Selangor has updated that 861 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat may experience low water pressure and unstable water supply. Affected customers are expected to receive stable water supply from 3.00pm onwards. You can view the list of affected areas here.

Air Selangor clarified that the water supply was interrupted due to the temporary shut down of the 4 water treatment plants early this morning due to contamination in Sungai Selangor.

Air Selangor has announced at 2.50am this morning that it had detected contamination at the raw water source in Sungai Selangor. As a result, they had to shut down the Rantau Panjang and Air Sungai Selangor SSP 1, 2 and 3 water treatment plants at 1.00am.

Contamination detected in Sungai Selangor

According to the initial announcement, the unscheduled disruption would affect water supply for 1,274 areas in the Klang Valley including Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombok and Kuala Langat.

Water treatment plants resume operations at 3.30am

At 6.00am this morning, it appears that the situation is under control as all 4 water treatment plants have resumed operations a couple of hours later. It added that the treatment plants could resume at 3.30am after recording three consecutive readings of 0 TON.

The water works company will provide more updates on its official channels including Facebook and Twitter.

The last major water disruption occurred on 10th November which affected 1,139,008 account holders in 1,279 areas in the Klang Valley. The contamination reading at Rantau Panjang at that time was high as 8 TON and the water treatment plants only resumed operations on the next day after releasing hundreds of millions of litres of water to dilute and to flush out the contaminants.
