Apple has been really busy over the past few months having hosted three events to launch its new range of iPads and Apple Watch models, the iPhone 12 lineup and new M1 chip powered Macs. As it turns out, the Cupertino based company might have one more product announcement to make before 2020 draws to a close.
The information comes from an internal Apple memo obtained by MacRumors from a supposed reliable source. The story goes that Apple has informed its service providers that it has AppleCare-related changes planned for 8 December at 5.30am Pacific Time (8 December, 9 pm. Malaysian time). According to the memo, Apple has advised its technicians to prepare for new product SKUs as well as new or updated product descriptions as well as new or updated product pricing.
Still, given the odd hour of the announcement in the US, it is highly unlikely Apple won’t be hosting an event in the wee hours of the morning. However, the timing of the announcement does make sense if Apple were issuing press releases to introduce new products.
Apple has actually done this in the past. The company revealed several of its product in this manner including the 13″ MacBook Pro in May 2020, the 16″ MacBook Pro in November 2019 and the second-generation AirPods in March 2019.
Notable leakster L0vetodream hinted on Twitter that there would be a “Christmas surprise” from Apple. But it still remains unclear which products Apple will be announcing at its next event. Some speculate that it could be new AirTags tracking tiles or AirPods Studio over-ear headphones or a new Apple TV with a gaming controller.
Considering that AppleCare changes are expected in preparation for the event, it is likely that the products will have AppleCare+ coverage available, so there is a good chance it will be brand new hardware. But we don’t discount the fact that the announcement could very well be for a minor accessory or it might not even happen at all.
Nevertheless, we will be keeping a close eye on the Apple Newsroom for any new product announcements on 8 December.
