COVID-19: New cases drop to 851 today, lowest number of daily cases reported in 14 days

Malaysia has recorded 851 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 68,020. This is the lowest number of cases reported in a day since 19th November and after recording 5 straight days of 4-digit figures. There are 2 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 365.

The Ministry of Health has reported 658 new recoveries and a total of 56,969 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 83.8% while the mortality rate is now 0.5%.

There are currently 10,686 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 122 are in ICU while 47 require respiratory support.

Out of the 851 new COVID-19 cases today, 4 are imported while 847 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 249 cases, followed by Sabah with 229 cases, Johor with 102 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 85 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 62 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified a total of 5 new COVID-19 clusters today. This include Desa Pinang cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, Impian cluster in Selangor, Baloi cluster in Johor, Jernai cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Seri Wangsa cluster which is also in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 44 active clusters have recorded new cases. The Batu Tujuh cluster in Johor recorded the most with 51 new cases, followed by the Beringin cluster which covers Penang, Perak and Kedah with 36 new cases. Meanwhile, the Kaya cluster, which covers 8 states and territories in West Malaysia, recorded 33 new cases.
