Leaked images online, revealed by Twitter user cozyplanes, show what the latest Microsoft Surface devices look like. The images appear to show the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4 passing through a certification process in Korea.
According to the listings, the model number for each device are: 1950 for the Surface Laptop and 1960 for the Surface Pro. The document also notes that there is another variant of the Surface Pro 8 with LTE support. Based on the photos, it appears that the two devices won’t feature a new design.
Windows Central also reported that the new Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4 could launch as early as mid-January with the latest 11th gen Intel processors and Intel’s Xe integrated graphics. Rumour has it that the Surface Laptop 4 will also come with an option for AMD processors, that is likely to be a custom Microsoft chip based on AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series.
Microsoft had previously co-engineered a special Ryzen Surface Edition processor for its 15″ Surface Laptop 3. Both AMD and Microsoft had promised that they had optimised the CPU and GPU performance on the device, but The Verge reported that this particular chipset struggled in basic tasks like 4K video playback.
It is speculated that the launch for the two devices will be relatively quiet without much fanfare outside the initial announcement. Though Windows Central mentions that Microsoft is hoping to roll out its Surface Duo foldable device in more markets shortly after this launch. There is no word if Microsoft will be bringing the Surface Duo to Malaysia or the Southeast Asia region.
It should be noted that Microsoft usually refreshes its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop line up in October. Last year the Redmond based company introduced the Surface Laptop 3 and the Surface Pro 7. The Surface Laptop 3 was noted for coming in two sizes: 13.5″ and 15″.
This year Microsoft introduced the Surface Laptop Go and the Surface Pro X. The Surface Laptop Go recently went on sale in Malaysia with prices starting from RM2,758 while the higher-end Surface Pro X made its Malaysian debut in October, priced from RM6,999.
