[ UPDATE 10/11/2020 17:30 ]: Senior Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob has confirmed that MySejahtera check-in is not required for payments made at the pump. More details here.

===

China Press has reported that it is mandatory to check-in with the MySejahtera app when you refuel at petrol stations. This is based on their conversation with Bukit Aman CID deputy director DCP Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid.

When asked if MySejahtera code must be scanned to avoid getting the RM1,000 fine, the deputy director said it is required for contact tracing purposes. From the screenshot provided, he said that petrol stations are considered public places and how could contact tracing be conducted if customers do not register themselves? He added that this also include visits to the station without entering the convenience store.

It was reported that Mior was asked to comment after an audio clip of a man claiming that his father was fined RM1,000 for not registering with the MySejahtera app went viral.

The report also stated that face masks are also required. On top of that, temperature measurement and disinfection with hand sanitisers are also part of the required SOP. Previously, it was reported by The Star that face masks are not necessary at petrol stations according to the Penang police chief Comm Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan.

We have yet to see MySejahtera QR codes at the petrol station fuel pump and it isn’t clear when this rule is made mandatory. It is also worth highlighting that the use of smartphones are not allowed at the pump and you can only use it in your vehicle before refueling. Even with the Setel mobile payment app, users are reminded to leave their phones in the vehicle when they refuel.

If MySejahtera check-in is required, petrol station operators would have to place extra large QR codes at the premises so that it can be scanned from inside the vehicle.
