The 11.11 sale is coming up, and I’ve already added some stuff in my cart for the big day. According to Amanz, there’s a web browser extension called AliPrice that’s meant to help me pick out better deals—not only for the 11.11 sale, but also for other days when I’m online shopping. But does it really help enhance your shopping experience?
AliPrice boasts that it can check the price history of an item on sale, find the same variant of an item and help you pick the best one, as well as compare product reviews. It also gives lets you download the extension on not just Google Chrome, but Yandex, Firefox and Opera Beta.
I started checking on the price history for a few products. The popular Apple Airpods Pro’s current price is RM949—which is still cheaper than their usual price of RM1,099. Lazada would be selling the Airpods Pro for RM879 during the 11.11 sale.
According to the price history function on AliPrice, the previous 10.10 sale only lowered the price to RM929. But weirdly, according to our live blog for 10.10, the Apple Airpods Pro were on sale for RM818—much lower than the upcoming RM879 price tag.
This means two things: the price for the Airpods won’t be as worth it as if you would pay for them last month, and also the AliPrice feature is not entirely accurate. However, the price for the Airpods Pro in Shopee did, in fact, reflect a low price of RM799 during 10.10.
AliPrice doesn’t exactly work too great for things with multiple variants, either. For example, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD comes in several storage capabilities. The lowest storage capability, 250GB, shows that its current price is RM330 but will go for RM319 during the 11.11 sale.
According to AliPay, the highest price the 250GB SSD went for was RM399 on 19 October. Whereas if you pick something like the 1TB variant, which currently costs RM713 and will go for RM659 during the sale, AliPrice will still give you the same reading it gave for SanDisk’s cheapest variant.
AliPrice’s other “features” like finding the same kind of an item and comparing product reviews are also missing. It’s supposed to show information on the products we want on the extension itself (as seen above).
But instead of looking for the products I want through the little extension tab, it instead redirected me to a new page of items—which is something I could have done myself with Lazada’s search bar. It really didn’t let me have the same features I was promised, and I couldn’t find any product reviews on the extension tab either.
Since almost everything about AliPrice isn’t very helpful, I think that it’s not really worth downloading. Although the price history feature itself is a hit and miss, it did make me more aware of how prices can change so quickly.
But if you’re still looking for an easy way to look for the best deals, don’t fret! We’ll be posting a live blog of the best 11.11 deals, so stay tuned for that.
