Microsoft Surface Laptop Go now available for pre-order in Malaysia, priced from RM2,758

Microsoft has announced its new Surface Laptop Go that it claims is its lightest and most affordable notebook to date. It weighs just 1.1kg and has a starting price of RM2,758. The Redmond based company first unveiled the Surface Laptop Go alongside its Surface Pro X 2-in-1 laptop last month.

Price and availability

The Surface Laptop Go will be available in Malaysia from 24 November onwards. It can be pre-ordered via commercial authorised resellers including SoftwareONE and Prestariang Systems Sdn Bhd, as well as authorised retailers such as All IT, Gloo by SNS, Harvey Norman, Lazada-Microsoft Authorised store, PC Image, Senheng, Shopee-Microsoft Authorised store and TMT by Thundermatch.

Microsoft said it will be offering a Surface for Business variant of the Surface Laptop Go that are built for commercial customers, providing enterprise-grade security and support. These laptops will also come with Window 10 Pro instead of Windows 10 Home on the consumer variant.

In addition, Surface for Business customers also get free Advanced Exchange, a warranty service with expedited device replacement at no additional cost.

Features and Specs

On the outside, the Surface Laptop Go features an aluminium top and polycarbonate composite resin base. Though it is offered in three colours: Ice Blue, Sandstone and Platinum, only the Platinum variant will be available in Malaysia. 

The latest Surface device from Microsoft boasts a sleek, streamlined design that measures 15.69mm thin and weighs just 1.1kg, making it easy to carry around. It features a 12.4” PixelSense touchscreen display (1536 x 1024 pixel resolution) with a 3:2 aspect ratio that is great for both productivity and entertainment.

For productivity, the laptop come with a large precision trackpad and a full-size keyboard with 1.3mm key travel for accurate and comfortable typing. According to Microsoft, select models of the Surface Laptop Go will come with a Fingerprint Power Button with One Touch. This feature allows users to sign-in through Windows Hello for quick and secure sign-in.

Under the hood, the Surface Laptop Go is powered by Intel’s 10th generation i5 – 1035G1 processor paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. It should be noted that the base model comes with just 4GB of RAM and 64GB eMMC storage. Microsoft claims the Surface Laptop Go has 13 hours of battery life that should help gets users through a full day of work. 

The laptop also comes with a 720p HD webcam which will come in handy for all the video calls users are doing from home. It is complemented by Studio Mics for receiving audio as well as Omnisonic speakers that come with Dolby Audio surround.

In terms of connectivity, the Surface Laptop Go comes with a range of different ports for you to plug in your most common accessories. This includes one USB-C port, one USB-A, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a Surface connector.
