The Honor Band 6 is a fitness band that’s designed to look like a smartwatch

Honor has announced the Honor Band 6, and unlike previous iterations, it now comes with a redesigned 1.47″ AMOLED touch display pushing a 194×368 pixel resolution. You’re also getting 2.5D curved glass, which gives Honor’s latest wearable a smartwatch-like look, although functionality remains similar to its predecessor, the Honor Band 5.

This means that Honor’s latest wearable offers standard health monitoring functions, including heart rate tracking, SpO2 tracking, and automatic sport detection for 10 different activities. There’s also 5ATM water resistance, which means that the Honor Band 6 should be able to withstand depths of up to 50 metres.

As expected, you can also pair your smartphone with the wearable to do things like control music playback, or receive messages and notifications. However, there doesn’t appear to be built-in microphone or speaker, which means that you won’t be able to make/receive calls via the wearable. Still, you can choose between a range of watch faces via the Huawei Health app—so at least it’ll look good.

Under the hood, the 180mAh battery is rated for up to 14 days in normal usage, which includes 24/7 heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and an average of 30 minutes of exercise per week (plus notifications). Charging is done with a magnetic clip on charger, and a full charge will take you around 65 minutes.

Other specs include NFC support, a physical side button for easier navigation, and a weight of 18g (without the strap). NFC support also means that you’ll be able to use contactless payments, although this will depend on regional availability.

Despite its smartwatch-like design, the Honor Band 6 still appears to be a fitness band on the inside. Most smartwatches have a plethora of apps you can choose from, or an app store, but fitness bands generally have limited app support—what you see is what you get, basically. Still, we’ve seen the emergence of pseudo-smartwatches over the past couple of years (such as the Honor Watch GS Pro), which offset the limited choices of apps with great battery life—to a degree.

If you’re keen, the Honor Band 6 is now available for pre-order in China, with two variants available:

Honor Band 6 – CNY 249 (~RM154)
Honor Band 6 NFC – CNY 289 (~RM179)

Official sales start on the 11th of November 2020 in China, although we don’t have word on Malaysian availability just yet.
