COVID-19: New cases drop to 649 today, total cases in Malaysia exceed 30,000

Malaysia has recorded 649 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 30,090. Today marks the lowest new daily cases since 16th of October. For the first time since 7th October, there no new deaths reported today. The death toll remains at 246.

The Ministry of Health has reported 685 new recoveries which is more than the number of new cases reported today. A total of 19,757 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 65.66% while the mortality rate is now 0.82%.

There are currently 10,087 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 106 are in ICU while 23 require respiratory support.

Out of the 649 new cases today, 7 are imported while 642 are transmitted locally. In terms of imported cases, these include 5 individuals arriving from Indonesia, 1 from India and 1 from the Philippines. Sabah recorded the most with 352 cases, followed by Selangor with 135 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 43 cases and Kedah with 37 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 5 new clusters today. This includes Sakti cluster in Lahad Datu, Tuguson cluster in Kota Belud, Bah Medan cluster in Sepang, Taman Laut cluster in Petaling and Taman Bunga cluster which covers Seremban, Kuala Pilah and Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan.

A total of 32 active clusters have recorded new cases today. The Kaya cluster which covers Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka and Selangor has recorded 66 new cases today, followed by the Tembok cluster in Kedah and Perak with 34 new case and Titir cluster in Sabah with 17 new cases.
