COVID-19: New cases drop to 823 today. 533 in Sabah and 97 in Pulau Pinang

Malaysia has recorded 823 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 26,565. There are 8 new deaths reported in Sabah and the death toll is now 229.

The Ministry of Health has reported 579 new recoveries and a total of 17,134 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 64.50% while the mortality rate is now 0.86%.

There are currently 9,202 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 99 patients are in ICU while 30 require respiratory support.

All 823 COVID-19 cases reported today are transmitted locally. Sabah continues to record the most cases at 533, followed by Pulau Pinang with 97 cases, Selangor with 88 cases and Labuan with 26 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 9 new clusters today which includes 4 in Sabah. The new Sabah clusters are Titir in Keningau, Omadal in Semporna, Bandaran in Kota Kinabalu and Jambul in Sandakan. There’s also a new Bayan cluster in Pulau Pinang, Mentari cluster which covers Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, Jernih cluster in Negeri Sembilan, Seladah cluster in Sarawak and Makekar cluster which covers Johor, Terengganu and Selangor.

A total of 34 active clusters have reported new cases today. The Seberang Perai prison cluster recorded the most with 94 new cases, followed by the Kepayan prison cluster with 67 cases and Ramai-ramai cluster in Sandakan with 28 new cases. In the Klang Valley, the Auto cluster has recorded 10 new cases today, followed by the Melati cluster with 6 new cases.
