Acer has teamed up with Porsche Design to introduce a new high-end luxury laptop, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS (AP714-51). This is not the first time the Taiwanese technology company has collaborated with the Stuttgart founded company as it released the Porsche Design Book One, a convertible notebook, back in 2017.
The result of Porsche Design and Acer partnership is a compact all-metal chassis laptop that taps on the latter’s functional design philosophy and engineering mindset, combined with Acer’s technological prowess.
With this laptop, you are getting a 14” FHD IPS touchscreen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It also has an ultra-narrow bezels that offer a 90% screen-to-body ratio. The glass is covered with a layer of Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass. Acer claims the coating is specially formulated to suppress the growth of bacteria on the touchscreen through the use of silver-ions.
The new Porsche Design Acer Book RS’s distinctive carbon fibre chassis pays homage to Porsche’s motorsport heritage. In case you didn’t know, carbon fibre is known for its lightweight strength and durability, it is commonly used in high-performance machines like aircraft and racecars.
All of this is packed within a small package that weighs just 1.2kg light and measures just 15.9mm thin. It has a unibody hinge that slightly elevates the keyboard upon opening the book. Also, the keyboard has backlit keys that provide better visibility when typing in dim lighting conditions. For navigation, the laptop features a glass precision touchpad that supports multi-gesture for better multitasking.
Speaking of cooling, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS comes with dual copper heat pipes that help the laptop remain cool. Acer claims, the laptop’s battery can to last up to 17 hours, offering all day productivity. In addition, the battery has a fast charge feature that gives it an additional four hours of power with a quick 30-minute charge.
Under the hood, the laptop can be configured up to the latest 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor, mated with up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 1TB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe SSD. You also get dual-band Intel Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and Bluetooth 5.0 to connect with all your peripherals devices.
For graphics, you can take your pick between the default Intel Iris X integrated graphics or optional Nvidia GeForce MX350 GPU.
The laptop comes with a full array of ports that include a USB-C port, HDMI out, Thunderbolt 4 and a USB3.2 Gen 2 port.
In addition to the laptop, Acer has also collaborated with Porsche Design to create the ideal travel companion for the Porsche Design Acer Book RS. This comes in the form of the Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS which consists of a mousepad, mouse, carrying pouch and notebook sleeve.
Acer said the travel pouch is made from Ecco Palermo XA leather, a durable material that is pleasant to the touch and glistens with a subtle shine. Magnetic clasps connect the pouch to a notebook sleeve that has been fashioned from 1680D fabric. The material is said to be water repellent and helps protect the notebook from the scratches and wear-and-tear. In addition, the notebook sleeve has a detachable lid that double as a mousepad.
The Porsche Design Acer Mouse RS completes the travel pack. Interestingly, the Bluetooth mouse uses carbon fibre to reinforce the left-mouse button and is also utilised for the mouse’s bottom cover. The strong materials is said to ensure the mouse has a longer life span. In addition, the mouse has a DPI switch that enables users to quickly switch between three preset sensitivity levels.
According to Acer, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS will be available in North America starting at USD 1,399.99 (RM5,808).
As for the accessories, the Porsche Design Acer Mouse RS starts at USD109.99 (RM456) while the Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS (mousepad, mouse, carrying pouch and notebook sleeve) starts at USD 329.99 (RM1,369).
Acer is also selling the Porsche Design Acer Book RS premium package that includes the i7 variant of the notebook together with the travelpack and mouse starting at USD 1,999.99 (RM8,297). No exact release date has been announced for the laptop and its accessories.
