CMCO: More than 2 people in one car allowed with police permission

During the current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), there’s a maximum limit of 2 people travelling in one car. For those that need to carry more people from the same household especially those that run a family business, are advised to request for permission from the police.

Senior Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob is aware of a recent incident of a family that was issued compounds during their daily commute to open their shop. He said the Royal Malaysian Police advised those involved in family businesses which requires them to travel with more than 2 pax in one vehicle to obtain the necessary authorisation letter. Ismail Sabri said that the letter will help them avoid unnecessary hassle and fines.

Recently, a chicken rice stall operator was slapped with three RM1,000 compounds for travelling with more than 2 people in one car. The chicken rice seller and his two sisters and nephew worked together at a stall in USJ4 and they travel from Jenjarom daily which is 30km away.

It was reported that all 3 passengers were fined on 14th October at 4pm on the LDP highway despite showing letters that they work and run a business in USJ14. The stall operator said that all 4 run the business and it would cost them RM40 one-way for 2 persons if they need to travel separately by Grab. He added that the SOP was unfair for traders and business owners that only have one car and hoped that the authorities would be more reasonable especially during these hard times. For taxi and eHailing operators, each driver can carry up to a maximum of 2 passengers at any given time.
