Are you still eligible for a free Apple TV+ subscription extension?

Last year, Apple gave away a free year of Apple TV+ to customers who have purchased a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac—and they were all set to end in November. However, Apple will be extending Apple TV+ subscriptions for a while longer.

How do you know if you’re eligible?

If you started a free year of Apple TV+ between 1 November 2019 and 31 January 2020, your end date for your free trial will now last until the end of February 2021, giving you an extra three months of free access. After that, users will need to pay RM19.90 per month if they choose to continue the subscription. But if you’ve signed up in February 2020 or later, there will be no change as your trial already lasts beyond the February date.

If you haven’t redeemed a free trial of Apple TV+ yet, that offer still stands and the same terms apply. You can get a free year of Apple TV+—which can be shared with up to six family members through Family Sharing—if you purchase a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac. But if you already have accepted a free year before this, you can’t get another.

Paying subscribers will also get a bonus. If you are on a yearly or monthly plan of Apple TV+ through February, you will also be credited RM19.90. Credits received can be used on anything from the iTunes Store or App Store.

If you’re eligible for any of these extensions or credits, you will be notified by email. While there is no official reason as to why the subscriptions are extended, according to TechCrunch Apple said that they know everyone is “still looking at a tough winter ahead filled with COVID-related restrictions”.

If you’re wondering what to watch, Nic Ker has written a few suggestions that you can read here. They include a musical comedy Central Park, and a documentary series called Dads.
