DxOMark: The Vivo X50 Pro+ gets a podium finish for camera performance

The Vivo X50 Pro+ has been tested by the camera experts over at DxOMark Mobile, with a score good enough to put it at third place in DxOMark’s overall rankings for mobile camera performance. This means that only the Huawei P40 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra offer better overall camera results—or at least, according to DxOMark’s tests.

Between photo and video, the Vivo X50 Pro+’s photography score of 139 is the highlight here. Vivo’s smartphone delivers “very strong” results for basic tests, with accurate target exposure, as well as white balance and colour accuracy. Dynamic range is wide, and details and highlights are well balanced in high-contrast shots.

The X50 Pro+’s 13MP periscope telephoto camera offers 5x optical zoom, and the phone does well at mid-zoom settings. Unfortunately, the wide-angle camera doesn’t offer similarly good results, with some “quality issues” detected during tests. Meanwhile, you can expect to have good low-light results, with noise being kept to a minimum and detail maintained in results.

Video performance is “excellent”, too. DxOMark says that 4K 30 fps is the setting that will get you the best results, and Vivo has maintained a good balance of detail and noise in video. Autofocus works well, too, and stabilisation is “effective”.

However, there are certain colour cast problems, with DxOMark pointing out that the colour of greenery could be improved in videos. Meanwhile, frame shifts can occur due to the device’s built-in stabilisation—but overall, video performance is still “praiseworthy”.

“Autofocus in video mode performs well, with fast convergence and efficient tracking of moving subjects, though our testers noticed occasional focus instabilities. Stabilisation is also reasonably effective, but it can introduce frame shift artifacts in which the frame appears to move when the phone is being held still.”

Overall, DxOMark says that the Vivo X50 Pro+ is a strong performer when it comes its camera capabilities. One of the only downsides is that the wide camera is “lacklustre” by “flagship standards”.

So, what do you think? Do you own a Vivo X50 Pro+? Share your experience in the comments section below. It’s worth noting that the X50 Pro+ isn’t available in Malaysia—only the X50 and X50 Pro.
