COVID-19: New cases drop to 20 today, lowest in 13 days

Malaysia has recorded 20 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 10,167. Unfortunately, there’s one new death in Kedah today and the death toll is now 130. Today’s fatality is a 82-year-old man that has a history of stroke.

The Ministry of Health has reported 51 new recoveries and a total of 9,315 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 91.62% while the mortality rate is 1.28%.

There are currently 722 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 12 patients are in ICU while 2 require respiratory support.

Out of the 20 new cases today, there are 3 imported cases and 17 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of 2 Malaysians returning from Qatar and New Zealand respectively and 1 foreigner that arrived from India.

In terms of local cases, there are 9 cases reported in Kedah which consist of 8 cases from the Sungai cluster and 1 through severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) screening. Sabah has 8 new cases today which consists of 1 from the Benteng cluster, while the remaining 7 were detected through hospital, SARI and community screening.

The Ministry of Health has also identified a new Bakau cluster in Semporna Sabah. The index patient is a Filipino woman that have passed away yesterday. As of 12pm today, a total of 109 individuals have been screened and 3 were found positive. The remaining 106 individuals are still awaiting results.

The Sungai cluster currently has 73 positive cases and a total of 23,935 individuals have been screened so far. 749 individuals are still waiting for their results.

Meanwhile, the Benteng cluster has accumulated a total of 551 positive cases. A total of 7,985 individuals have been screened and 2,008 are awaiting results.
