Galaxy M51: Samsung puts a 7,000mAh battery in a mid-range phone

The Samsung Galaxy M51 is finally official and the device is already listed on Samsung’s Germany website. This is the top of the line phone in the Galaxy M series and it boasts probably the largest battery ever in a Samsung smartphone.

The Galaxy M51 comes in either Black or White and the design looks like a typical Galaxy A or Galaxy M series phone. Upfront, it gets a 6.7″ Super AMOLED Plus display that comes with a small punch-hole to house its 32MP selfie camera.

The device is listed with an unspecified octa-core processor but it is believed to be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 or 730G processor like the current Galaxy A71. In Germany, the device comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is expandable via microSD.

For taking pictures, it gets a quad-camera setup at the rear featuring a 64MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. There’s also a 5MP macro camera and a 5MP depth sensor.

Similar to the Galaxy M31s that was released in India, the device comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which doubles as a power button.

The biggest highlight is its large 7,000mAh battery, which is 1,000mAh more than the current Galaxy M31 and M21 that are currently available in Malaysia. Comparing with the flagships, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is fitted with a 5,000mAh battery while the Note 20 Ultra gets a smaller 4,500mAh unit. To replenish the mammoth battery quickly, the M51 supports 25W fast-charging via USB-C.

In Europe, it is priced at EUR 360 (about RM1,786). Do note that European pricing is significantly higher than the Malaysian market. For example, the Galaxy M31 which is priced at RM1,099 in Malaysia is going for EUR 262.22 (about RM1,300) in Germany.

The Galaxy M51 is expected to be released in India soon but there’s still no indication if it will be introduced in Malaysia soon. Would you fancy a Snapdragon 730 powered phone with a 7,000mAh battery if it’s priced at around RM1,400? Let us know in the comments below.
