Huawei teases MateBook X 2020 with 3K display, possibly the lightest in the series

Huawei is set to reveal its new MateBook X 2020 laptop on 19 August. A recent post on Huawei’s Weibo channel showed a promotional image that teased the profile of the new laptop.

Though we can’t really make out the actual physical appearance of the laptop, it seems that it is slimmer than the current model. We can also see that Huawei has at least one USB-C port off from the left side of the device. But at the very least, there is a headphone jack.

Sadly, it looks like you will need to carry some USB-C dongles around to connect your peripherals as it looks like Huawei has removed the USB-A ports. That’s a shame considering that the current model still allows you to connect your legacy accessories.

Though there are no official images of the MateBook X 2020, here are some speculated renders of the laptop from ITHome.

According to Sparrows News, the new MateBook X will be available a variety of sizes. It is also slated to feature a “metal-frameless design” with a 3K resolution display.

Keeping to its thin and lightweight design, the new MateBook is said to weigh about 1kg. That would make it a 30% reduction from the current model that weighs 1.34kg.

In terms of specs, it is rumoured that the MateBook X 2020 will come with a choice between a 10th generation Comet Lake Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. It is mated with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. For graphics, it will come equipped with an Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU.

Other details obtained from Digital Chat Station, a leaker on Weibo revealed that the laptop could have a 13″ screen and it is slated to have a pressure-sensitive trackpad that is similar to Apple’s Force Touch trackpads.

At present, there is no word about the pricing of the MateBook X but judging from the built quality of the current model, it won’t come cheap. Though the laptop will likely be sold in China first, it should be released to the international market sometime later this year.
