Redmi K30 Ultra: 10th anniversary update features 5G support, 120Hz refresh rate display

Redmi has announced a new flagship device for its K-series line, with the Redmi K30 Ultra now complementing the Redmi K30 Pro and the standard K30. According to the company, The K30 Ultra has been launched as part of Xiaomi’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

The latest device to come out of Xiaomi’s sub-brand appears to have near-identical looks as the K30 Pro, although there are several notable differences under the hood.

Firstly, you’ll be getting a MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000+ 5G SoC under the hood, the company’s latest 7nm processor. The K30 Pro, on the other hand, features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865—which might be preferable to international markets. Regardless, you’ll still be getting MediaTek’s purported answer to SD865, and the K30 Ultra appears to be a China market exclusive for now.

Additionally, the K30 Ultra’s screen is a significant upgrade over the K30 Pro, with a 6.67″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that now pushes a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Unlike the Ultra, the Pro version only has a standard 60Hz refresh rate—not even 90Hz.

Other changes include the Redmi K30 Ultra’s (smaller) 4,500mAh battery, while 33W fast-charging is supported with the in-box charger via USB-C. The camera setup is identical to the K30 Pro, with a quad camera setup consisting of a 64MP main shooter, a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera, a 5MP telemacro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. Unfortunately, the Ultra version misses out on the telephoto lens from the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom—which is disappointing, given the versatility it could offer.

For selfies, you’ll have the same 20MP pop-up camera from the K30 Pro, which offers an unencumbered display that has a 92.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. Along with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, the Samsung AMOLED panel also offers a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Among other notable features are WiFi 6 support, Dual 5G connectivity, NFC, and an IR blaster. Storage options of up to 512GB are available, with up to 8GB of RAM supported as well. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed the memory type used by the Redmi K30 Ultra, but the K30 Pro features UFS3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM—so perhaps we’ll be seeing the same here.

You’re also getting dual stereo speakers, with Redmi also saying that the device comes with Hi-Res Audio certification. The device also uses three built-in microphones to “zoom in” on sound sources via Audio Zoom—something that Redmi touched on quite a bit in their official statement.

Three colours are available: Moonlight White, Midnight Black, and Mint Green. The Redmi K30 Ultra will be available from the 14th of August 2020 in China, with official pricing as follows:

Redmi K30 Ultra – 6GB RAM, 128GB storage – CNY1,999 (~RM1,207)
Redmi K30 Ultra – 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – CNY2,199 (~RM1,328)
Redmi K30 Ultra – 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – CNY2,499 (~RM1,509)
Redmi K30 Ultra – 8GB RAM, 512GB storage – CNY2,699 (~RM1,630)

Global (or Malaysian) availability has yet to be confirmed by Redmi, although we’ll be sure to update this article if we receive official word. A possibility is that Xiaomi could choose to release the K30 Ultra under one of its other sub-brands, just like the Poco F2 Pro that was based on the Redmi K30 Pro.
