COVID-19: New cases jump to 13 today, new clusters in Perak and Putrajaya identified

Malaysia has recorded 13 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 9,083. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 125 for 9 straight days.

The Ministry of Health has reported 9 new recoveries and a total of 8,784 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.71% while the mortality rate is 1.38%.

There are currently 174 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. There’s only 1 patient in ICU which doesn’t require respiratory support.

Out of the 13 new cases today, 9 are imported while 4 cases are transmitted locally. The imported cases include 5 Malaysians returning from China, India, Qatar, Yemen and Japan respectively. There are also 4 foreigners who are found positive that arrived from Japan, China, India and Indonesia.

In terms of local cases, 3 are reported in Pulau Pinang and 1 in Putrajaya, and all of them are Malaysians. 2 of the new cases in Penang are 3rd generation infections from the Sivagangga cluster.

The Ministry of Health has identified two new clusters located in Perak and Putrajaya. This includes 1 case in Penang from the Kurau cluster and 1 case in Putrajaya from the Meranti cluster.

As of today, both clusters have 2 active cases each. 117 people have been tested from the Kurau cluster with 106 returned negative and 9 are still waiting for results. Meanwhile, 15 individuals have been tested from the Meranti cluster and the source of the infection is still under investigation. With the 2 new cases, the Sivagangga cluster currently has a total of 45 positive cases which are still active.

As of 12pm today, there are no red zones in the country. Kubang Pasu has 19 active cases followed by Kuching with 16 cases and Kangar with 12 cases. The states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Melaka are currently green.
