Apart from the Galaxy Note 20 series, the biggest star of the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event is probably the new Galaxy Z Fold 2. This is the successor to the original Galaxy Fold that was launched last year. After seeing a very low-res leak of the new foldable device, we now get a clearer view thanks to high-resolution product images via MySmartPrice.
Samsung is streamlining its foldable devices under the Galaxy Z lineup and that’s the reason why the new Fold is called the Galaxy Z Fold 2. While it retains the same inward folding form factor, the new device has larger screens that stretches edge to edge without the ugly notches and thick bezels.
According to the source, the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G will feature a 6.23″ Super AMOLED display on the cover, which is a massive upgrade from the current 4.6″ HD screen on the current Fold. On the inside, it gets a slightly bigger 7.7″ flexible Super AMOLED panel that boasts a high 120Hz refresh rate.
To create a more immersive viewing experience, Samsung is using 10MP punch-hole cameras for both the cover and the main foldable display. Over at the rear, you’ll get the same triple-camera bump design as the Note 20 series which houses a 64MP + 12MP + 12MP camera array. Under the hood, it is likely to run on a Snapdragon 865+ processor similar to the recently announced Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The device is said to retain the same 512GB internal storage as the current model.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a 5G device and it will feature two batteries that provide a combined capacity of 4,356mAh, which is hardly an upgrade from the current Fold. There are no details yet on its charging tech but it is said to support 15W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
Similar to the Note 20 series, the new device will come in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. MySmartPrice reckons that the Fold 2 will be priced at USD 1,980 which is about RM8,400. The first gen Samsung Galaxy Fold was released in Malaysia with a retail price tag of RM8,388.
