[ UPDATE 17/07/2020 8:45 ]: It appears that more sellers are selling the Mi TV Stick with some going for as low as RM139. More details below:
===
Yesterday, Xiaomi has officially announced the Mi TV Stick which packs Android TV and Google Chromecast in a compact HDMI dongle. If you can’t wait to get your hands on one, you can already buy the Mi TV Stick in Malaysia through several eCommerce listings.
As spotted on Shopee, a retailer is selling the Mi TV Stick that supports 1080p streaming for RM159. That’s quite affordable considering the Mi TV Stick was announced for EUR 39.99, which is about RM195.
Based on the listing on Shopee, this seems to be a reputable seller as it has the “preferred” and “Shopee Guarantee” labels. At the time of writing, it has a couple of positive reviews including one that shared a photo of the delivered product.
However, do note that this isn’t an official Xiaomi Malaysia set and it appears to be an imported unit. According to the listing, it comes with its own 1-year supplier warranty so you’ll have to deal with the same seller if you face any issues. Interestingly, the same retailer also has a store on Lazada but it’s priced higher at RM189.
For those who prefer to get the device with official Xiaomi Malaysia warranty, you’ll have to wait until it is officially announced for our market.
UPDATE: Another reseller is offering the Mi TV Stick for RM139. However, do note that this is a “pre-order” and it is estimated to ship in 7 days. Do note that this isn’t a “preferred” Shopee seller. However, it appears that several customers have received their orders before the global launch.
“Preferred” Shopee seller, Dasher, is also selling the Mi TV Stick but it’s priced higher at RM179. This seller has been known for offering imported Xiaomi products and it has been on the Shopee platform for 5 years. Interestingly, their Mi Stick claims to come with 2GB of RAM which could be a typo.
The Mi TV Stick is essentially a compact version of the Mi Box and it can turn any conventional TV with a HDMI port into a Smart TV. It runs on Android TV 9.0 and it is powered by a quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The stick comes with 8GB of internal storage which doesn’t seem to be expandable like the Mi Box.
The device comes with a Bluetooth remote that has dedicated buttons for Netflix, Prime Video and Google Assistant. With the built-in mic, you can control the Android TV interface via voice.
In terms of connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.2 and 5GHz 802.11ac WiFi. Do note that the current Mi TV Stick only supports Full HD resolution and has support for Dolby and DTS surround sound. It is powered via a microUSB port and a power adapter included in the box.
