Poco (or Pocophone in certain markets) is a brand that still generates a fair amount of hype for every phone release. The Xiaomi-owned brand has arguably continued to leverage off the success of its iconic first release: the Pocophone F1, although the company has taken to releasing rebadged Redmi devices as “new” phones in recent times. And according to various reports, this could be the case again with the upcoming Poco M2 Pro.
Now, the company is set to launch another device on the 7th of July, although availability looks likely to be confined to Indian markets initially. Having been rumoured and leaked for awhile now, Poco India has confirmed via its official Twitter page that the Poco M2 Pro will be arriving on the 7th of July 2020.
What’s interesting here is that Poco is clearly putting a lot of emphasis upon “surge”, a reference towards the 33W fast charging speed supported. This, along with the quad-camera design that you can see on the graphic appears to suggest that the Poco M2 Pro will simply be a rebadged Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Not much else has been revealed just yet, and most of the Tweets found on Poco India’s account only focus on the charging speed of the upcoming M2 Pro.
Still, if the Poco M2 Pro is a rebadged Redmi Note 9 Pro, we have an idea of how the specs could look like. This means that we could see a 6.67″ Full HD+ display, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset under the hood. Up to 6GB of RAM is available on the Redmi Note 9 Pro, along with up to 128GB of expandable storage.
Tellingly, Redmi’s Note 9 Pro also has a massive 5,020mAh battery that supports 30W fast-charging. However, Redmi/Xiaomi bundles in a 33W charging brick in the box—which seemed rather strange at the time.
As for the quad-camera array on the rear, you get a 64MP f/1.89 main shooter along with an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera, a 5MP macro lens, as well as a 2MP depth sensor for those portrait shots. The base model Redmi Note 9 Pro is priced at around RM1,286, which could be within the ballpark of where Poco plans to price the M2 Pro.
Lastly, the Poco M2 Pro has also been seen on Geekbench, with internals largely matching up to the processor and memory specs mentioned above. As such, we’ll just to wait and see—but in all probability, the Poco M2 Pro will launch on the 7th of July 2020 as a rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro.
