JPJeBid: “SYG” number plates fetch a total of RM3.4 million in just 5 days

The Road Transport Department (RTD) has announced that the bidding process for SYG registration number plates have concluded, with a staggering total of RM3.4 million collected over the course of five days. Held via the JPJeBid system from the 10–15 of June 2020, the highest bid was received for SYG 1, at RM115,000.

According to RTD Director-General Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid, 3,173 SYG registration numbers successfuly won by bidders, with SYG 8055 receiving the most bidders—25—and selling for RM19,000. Paultan also reports that the winner of SYG 1 also won the rights for SYG 8 at RM52,000, a registration that was expectedly pricey due to the auspicious nature of the number 8.

According to Shaharuddin, the total amount from the bidding process outstrips the ALL series from last year by a significant sum of RM100,254, which only serves to highlight the popularity of a licence plate that begins with SYG—sayang.

But if you’ve missed the bidding process and you’re still keen on a sayang plate, there are 6,726 registration numbers that will still be available to the public for purchase at RTD offices on the 1st of July. Prices can range from RM300 for “less desirable” numbers, into the tens of thousands for more popular numbers.

Meanwhile, Paultan also reported that SYG 9, 10, and 2 garnered high bids as well, with RM70,096, RM50,000, and RM45,000 price tags respectively. The bidding process was done via JPJeBid, which is JPJ’s online bidding platform that is supposed to provide more transparency for users.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to browse and bid for numbers over the platform has become especially important. In that same line of thought, the renewal of licnces can also be done via the mySIKAP portal, with renewed licences to be sent to residences via Pos Malaysia on 1 July.
