RM50 eWallet credit only for M’sians that download MySejahtera app

Eligible Malaysians will soon receive RM50 eWallet credit with an additional RM50 worth of discounts and cashback as part of the ePenjana initiative that was announced by the Prime Minister. In order to receive this benefit, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has revealed today that you will need to download the MySejahtera app.

According to the Minister, this is to encourage more Malaysians to download the MySejahtera app which will help health authorities in its effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. The app also enables QR code-based contact tracing at business premises as it reduces the need for writing down contact details manually.

The RM50 credit is expected to be credited directly to verified eWallets starting next month. The ePenjana program will run from July until September 2020 and it aims to benefit 15 million Malaysians. The eWallet initiative is only applicable to Malaysians aged 18 years old and above, and with an annual income of less than RM100,000 per year.

Unlike the previous eTunai Rakyat program, the RM50 eWallet credit via Penjana can only be used for offline and physical purchases. This means you won’t be able to use it for in-app services or online shopping. The government has yet to reveal the list of supported eWallets and the actual redemption process. The previous RM30 eWallet program was only available for Boost, Grab and Touch ‘n Go eWallet.

For those who are having issues registering, the Ministry of Health is aware of the issue. They advise users to try again a few hours later. The MySejahtera app is available on the Google Play Store, Apple AppStore and Huawei AppGallery.

In case you missed it, the current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will end on 9th of June 2020 and it will be replaced by a Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which is scheduled to end on 31st August 2020. More restrictions are being lifted and Malaysians are permitted to travel interstate and go on a domestic holiday with exception to places that are under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

Barbers and hair salons are allowed to resume starting 10th of June with strict SOP, while schools are expected to reopen soon in stages. Malaysia has recorded 7 new COVID-19 cases today, which is a new record low during the MCO.
