Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that banks are allowed to operate their automated teller machines (ATM) as usual starting tomorrow. Prior to this, ATM operating hours were limited to 8am to 8pm as there are people going out late at night with the excuse of withdrawing money.
At today’s National Security Council update, the minister said banks can resume their pre-MCO ATM operating hours from the 1st of June 2020. He also reminded that social distancing guidelines must be maintained at the banks.
In early April, the government had also announced a RM1 interbank fee waiver for ATM cash withdrawals. The move was aimed to provide relief to customers who need to withdraw cash at their nearest bank. At the time, it was vital as people were only allowed to travel within a 10km radius.
The current CMCO is expected to end on 9th June 2020. Apart from lifting restrictions for ATMs, couples that are separated due to the MCO will be allowed to travel interstate starting tomorrow. However, applications must be made via Gerak Malaysia or at their nearest police station.
