Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that Malaysians that plan to return home are no longer required to submit an application at the nearest Malaysian Embassies. Instead, Malaysians will be able to apply by filling up online forms provided by the Foreign Ministry.
According to the Senior Minister, many Malaysians have complained that it’s too far to travel to embassies in the respective countries. As an alternative, the government is introducing online applications.
At the time of writing, the forms are not yet available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or on its official Facebook page.
During today’s daily National Security Council update, Ismail Sabri said Malaysians can also fill in the ‘akujanji‘ to agree to pay for hotel fees for the 14-day quarantine. The ministry also advised Malaysians studying overseas to stay put if there’s no emergency and if they are safe.
He shared that since 3rd April, a total of 39,481 Malaysians have returned home and 30,976 have completed their mandatory quarantine. Yesterday, there are 913 more Malaysians have returned and the number of people undergoing quarantine is now 17,174.
Effective 1st June, returning Malaysians are required to bear 50% of the cost of the hotel accommodation during their mandatory 14-day quarantine. Previously, the government will bear the full amount with a maximum budget of RM150 per day.
However, for those returning to Sarawak, the state government will continue to foot the hotel bill for returning Sarawakians that are quarantined at hotels in Sarawak. Foreigners will have to pay for their own accommodation while they undergo quarantine.
