Gerak Malaysia: PDRM has approved 226,181 interstate travel requests

At today’s briefing, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has revealed that a total of 226,181 interstate travel requests via Gerak Malaysia were approved by the Royal Malaysia Police. As announced earlier, those that are stranded at their hometowns will be permitted to return home between 7th to 10th May subject to approval by the police.

The authorities noted that most road users have started their journey after sahur in the morning. The interstate travel movement is said to be in proper order, while highway R&R users have complied with the necessary SOPs.

For today (8th May), a total of 70,538 approvals were granted for those travelling from Perak, Johor and Kelantan. The minister also added that a total of 54,151 approval were granted for tomorrow which is designated for Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Melaka and Pahang. Meanwhile, for Sunday, a total of 77,836 approvals are granted for those leaving from Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.

Do note that the QR codes must be generated only on the day of travel. If you’ve accidentally generated the QR code early, you can generate a new code on the day of travel after 12.00am. Since the QR code approvals are only issued on the travel day itself, we are told that the figures above are based on forecast data.

For those who can’t install the Gerak Malaysia app, the police have also issued approvals via manual forms. For those who have yet to apply, may do so via Gerak Malaysia 2.5 or they can submit a form to the police station. A phone appointment must be made before you can go to the station and this is to avoid overcrowding.

In case you missed it, the police are now allowing express buses and motorcycles for interstate travel. Similar to private car users, all individuals aged 16 years old and above must register via the app and travel according to the permitted dates.

What about after 10th May?

For those that need to travel after 10th May, the existing MCO SOP applies. You must apply from the police and it is only allowed for emergency reasons such as death of a family member. Interstate travel during the MCO is still prohibited and the same restrictions still apply at the respective state borders.

The minister also stressed that the 4-day interstate travel period is a one-time trip to return back to the city. It is not meant for those wanting to balik kampung to berbuka puasa and then go back again.
